My Area

Burlington, Ontario

The City of Burlington is located on the north shore of Lake Ontario between Hamilton and Toronto at the west end of the Greater Toronto Area.  It is roughly at the centre of the urban corridor known as the Golden Horseshoe.

Places to See

Burlington is a growing city with a population of approximately 165,000.  There is much to enjoy for the residents.  There are 75 parks within the city, including Lasalle Park in Aldershot and Spencer Smith Park located by the lake.  Kerncliff Park is a naturalized area on the lip of the Niagara Escarpment with the Bruce Trail running through the park. The Bruce Trail and the Niagara Escarpment offer some of the best hiking in the world.  Other scenic routes include the Waterfront Trail that runs along the northern shore of Lake Ontario.  Mount Nemo Conservation area is operated by the Halton Region Conservation Authority.

Things to do

Burlington is home to the Royal Botanical Gardens, which has the world’s largest lilac collection.

The Burlington Art Centre shows various exhibits throughout the year from local to national talent, and holds the world’s largest collection of Contemporary Canadian Ceramics.

Historical enthusiasts will enjoy the Joseph Brant Museum and Ireland House at Oakridge Farm, a history museum that depicts family life from the 1850s to the 1920s.

The Performing Arts Centre (see rendering beside), located in the downtown core, is under construction and plans to open in 2011.

Burlington also offers four indoor and two outdoor pools, four splash pads, nine ice pads, six community centres and nine golf courses.

Events

Some of the more well-attended events include Canada’s Largest Ribfest and the Sound of Music Festival.

Transportation

Major transportation corridors through the city include the Queen Elizabeth Way, Highway 403, Highway 407, and Dundas Street (former Highway 5). Commuter and travel rail service is provided by both GO Transit and VIA Rail. Rail cargo transportation is provided by both Canadian National Railway and Canadian Pacific.  Burlington Transit manages the local bus system.

Shopping

Larger shopping centres include:

  • Appleby Mall - a mall located at Appleby Line and New Street.
  • Burlington Mall - a one-storey mall at Guelph Line and Fairview Street,
  • Mapleview Centre – located by the QEW and Fairview Street
  • Millcroft Shopping Centre - an outdoor mall located at Appleby Line and Upper Middle Road.
When you buy a home, you’re not just buying a physical structure. You’re buying into the neighbourhood. The types of people who live there, the local shops, the parks, swimming pools and restaurants all contribute to the overall feel of the area, and make it distinct from other neighbourhoods.
Whatever your needs, I will help you find a home you’ll love – in a place where you’ll feel right at home.
